Cargo to and from Mozambique

Three ports, three hinterlands, and a routing decision behind each one.

All 13 countries

Mozambique's coastline gives Southern Africa three separate doors, and each opens onto a different hinterland. Maputo faces South Africa and Eswatini. Beira serves Zimbabwe, Zambia and southern Malawi. Nacala, the deepest natural harbour on the coast, runs a rail corridor into Malawi and on toward Zambia.

That means picking a Mozambican port is a decision about where the cargo is ultimately going, not about which berth the vessel can reach soonest. Get it wrong and a container lands eight hundred kilometres from the corridor it needed. Britex handles both the Mozambican leg and the transit legs beyond it, so that call gets made once, at booking, by people who will also be moving the truck.

How cargo reaches Mozambique

Principal routing

  1. Maputo, Beira or Nacala
  2. Documentation and release
  3. Local delivery or corridor transit

Onward on the Beira Corridor

  1. Beira
  2. Machipanda or Zobue border
  3. Zimbabwe, Zambia or Malawi

We don’t publish transit times against a route. Distance and corridor are geography; what a specific container takes depends on the border, the season and the vessel. Ask us and we’ll commit to a timing against your actual shipment.
