Cargo to and from Zambia
Four corridors compete for Zambian cargo, and the Copperbelt decides between them.
Zambia is landlocked and unusually well connected, which is a mixed blessing. Dar es Salaam reaches Lusaka in roughly 1,950 km through Nakonde and Tunduma. Beira and Nacala come up from the Mozambican coast. Durban and Walvis Bay serve it from the south and west. Four viable doors mean four sets of rates, congestion states and border conditions to weigh on every shipment.
The Copperbelt is usually what settles it. Mining inputs bound for Ndola, Kitwe and Chingola are heavy, time-sensitive and expensive to get wrong, and copper moving the other way has its own schedule. Britex works these lanes as bonded transit with the haulage attached, so the corridor choice and the paperwork are made by the same people.
